Foley & Mansfield Launches Inaugural Summer Minority Clerkship Program

Foley & Mansfield announced today the launch of the firm’s first Summer Minority Clerkship program – a program designed to create a pipeline of underrepresented legal professionals at the law school level and  help them gain direct experience and exposure to the practice of litigation and trial procedure. For Summer 2021, Foley & Mansfield has partnered with Southern University Law Center (SULC) and hired a 2L law student from this Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to work at the firm through August 2021.

To launch the clerkship program, Foley & Mansfield’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion, John Myung  worked  alongside Koshaneke Gilbert, Esq., SULC’s Associate Director, Office of Career Services, Adjunct Professor, to identify six candidates from the law school to interview for the clerkship. All candidates presented to the Firm impressed the hiring attorneys from the St. Louis office, and after careful consideration, the firm selected Amari Spraggins who will begin her remote clerkship on June 1, 2021. Amari will receive hands-on experience working alongside Foley & Mansfield’s defense teams where she will work on pleadings,  discovery, legal research, and other trial procedures.

“Through the interview process, Amari stood out as a candidate with leadership capabilities and academic excellence,” said  Myung. “We are pleased that she will be joining the firm as the first law student in this program and we are excited to be a stepping-stone as she prepares for her career in law.”
